COLLEGIATE & UNIVERSITY PROJECTS

HENDRIX VILLAGE
Conway, Arkansas

1050 Ellis Avenue and 1700 Altus Street are feature buildings that surround the village green at the Village at Hendrix.  This new planned development in Conway, Arkansas is based on new urbanism principles for a traditional neighborhood development. These two facilities house a total of 130 Hendrix College students in their 63 dwelling units. The approximate 10,000 square feet on the ground floor of each building is set aside for commercial and retail uses. The structure on Ellis Avenue uses two different architectural styles to break up the scale of the building and add variety to the surrounding environment. Williams & Dean worked closely with town urbanists Lew Oliver, Inc. on these featured buildings. This facility opened to Hendrix College students for the 2009 fall semester.

The first building was the first dormitoy in the state to be awarded a LEED Silver level rating by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) under the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) New Construction Rating System. The remaining buildings are pursuing LEED Gold certification.
